Huskie Characteristics

Siberian huskies are extremely handsome, intelligent, alert and outgoing dogs. As a medium-size working dog, they possess power and athleticism. They are pack oriented, which makes them extremely sociable by nature, and they are happy to make friends with just about anybody. The Siberian huskie has a strong affection for family, and their temperament is friendly and gentle. They do well with children, and will welcome everyone into their home.

They have a very high prey drive, and although many Siberian huskies have accepted cats as part of their family, you do need to be mindful when smaller animals are around your huskie, unless raised together, this can be a hazard.

They are highly intelligent and enjoy games and playtime. With a look of I’m an angel “catch-me-if-you-can,” instantly they take off at full throttle! These bright dogs are always learning new things, and FYI – monkey see, monkey do! The more they watch you do something, the quicker they learn how to do it! When faced with a challenge, they thrive. Digging comes naturally to Siberians huskies. In Siberia in the freezing winds and cold snow, Siberians themselves would dig holes for warmth and protection from the elements. These dogs caught on fast; they’re smart creatures!

It’s highly recommended that THIS BREED SHOULD NEVER BE LET OFF LEASH! Siberian huskies love to run, and unless they are carefully watched, and only allowed to run free in enclosed areas, an off leash Siberian will soon become a lost Siberian huskie…or worse. For their own protection, huskies should be confined or under control at all times. Sufficient exercise for proper development and their well-being may be obtained in a large enclosure, or on a leash anywhere. If you feel that it is inconvenient or cruel to keep a dog confined, then the Siberian breed is not for you.

It would be most beneficial to anyone thinking of adding this new member to their family to research the Siberian huskie thoroughly, and take into consideration the time, effort and energetic needs of this delightful breed.
