Grooming & Coat Care

The Siberian huskie is a reasonably easy dog to care for. They need very little grooming, no trimming of hair, just a brush to remove any dead hair to keep their coats bright and soft, they are meticulously clean and generally free from body odour. Siberian huskies are well known to clean themselves like cats. Their thick double coat repels dirt and regular brushing will help to keep it in good condition. Bathing requirements of these dogs is minimal.

At least once a year the Siberian huskie sheds his entire undercoat, and it is then that one realises the abundance of wool likened fur in their undercoat. This process can last at least six weeks. All dead hair needs to be brushed out to enable swift, strong re-growth of their new coat. To make this process easier bathe and blow-dry your dog, this will encourage the hair to drop out evenly and make it easier to comb out.

The Siberian huskie does get fleas like any other dog if they are exposed to them. As a responsible carer of your pet, you should implement flea control regularly, and follow the recommended dosage as stipulated on the fleeing product.

Cleaning your Siberian huskies’ teeth can be a hazard, and we suggest you work with your dog from puppy through to adulthood, so it can be a reasonably pleasant experience for you both. Of course there are many synthetic bones, and chew toys that are specially designed to strengthen your dog’s gums and teeth. Consulting with your vet would be advisable to ensure you’re providing appropriate dental care for your dog.

Their nails can be clipped from time to time, especially if they are indoors, but if they spend the majority of their time outside, like our pack, on grassy paddocks and rock pathways, we don’t feel the need for this.
